OPCC Polices & Frequently Asked Questions
Registering for Programs:
Registration dates can be found in our program guide, are posted on our website and are sent out through our email updates. In order to receive updates via email, you can join our free email list
Registration may be done online, in person or by phone. Payments online or by phone are by Visa and MasterCard only. Payments may be made in person by cash, cheque, debit, Visa and MasterCard.
If you are unable to register for a program, it is likely because your child is the wrong age for the program, or the program is already full. Each program has a limited number of spaces available to abide by room capacity due to fire regulations, so we encourage you to add yourself to the waitlist for the program, and we will contact you if a space becomes available.
Registering without a Credit Card:
If you would like to register for an Enrichment program or a Parenting program with a fee and do not have a credit card, you can register in person at our North Service Road-Main location by cash, cheque or debit.
We would like all families to have the opportunity to participate in all our programs, and subsidies are available. Please see the Inclusion policy below for details on subsidy options.
Cancelling a Program:
If you would like to cancel or make a change to an Enrichment Program or Parenting program, please contact us at email@example.com
or by telephone at 905-849-6366. A $25 administrative fee is charged for all refunds for programs over $25, and no refund is issued for programs under $25. Refunds are only available if requested 5 business days before the start of a program, and will be issued by cheque, including payments made by Visa and MasterCard.
Creating an Account:
It is a requirement to have an account to attend or register for any OPCC programs, including EarlyON drop in programs. Your account will be used to register for any of our Enrichment or Parenting programs, as well as to ensure we have your contact information and information about your child(ren) when attending any of our EarlyON programs. We know it can be difficult to find a family doctor, however we ask that if you do not have a family doctor, please include the name of the walk-in clinic that you typically visit and a name of a doctor at that clinic (e.g. Dr. Jones - Iroquois Ridge Medical Centre). Once you have acquired a family doctor, please advise OPCC's main office at 905-849-6366
Please make sure all allergy information and special instructions are up to date in your account. You will be contacted by OPCC staff before the start of a registered program for severe allergies requiring the use of an epi-pen.
You can be assured that your personal information, and payment is being kept secure. Personal information is being kept in a password protected secure database. This database is monitored 24/7 to avoid SQL Injection. Additionally, your payment information uses TD Canada Trust's Online Gateway. OPCC doesn't store credit card information on the database server, and all transactions are processed through a Secure Socket Layer (SSL). The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a commonly-used protocol for managing the security of data transmission on the Internet.
Children with Special Needs:
OPCC takes pride in offering our programs to all children, newborn to 6 years, regardless of the level of their need. Please see the Inclusion policy below for additional information and resources.
Babies up to 6 months old may be worn by the parent in the classroom. Siblings over 6 months old require their own registration and must fit into the age group of the program being attended.
Snacks during programs:
Your child can have a snack during a program in the designated snack area, however OPCC strives to be a nut free facility. Therefore, if you choose to being a snack for your child, it must be nut free. This includes honey nut cheerios, trail mix, granola bars, or any food item where the ingredient label states “may contain nut, nut products or nut oils”.
Adults in programs:
For EarlyON drop in programs and Enrichment programs, your child(ren) must be accompanied by a parent, or another responsible caregiver or adult, 18 years of age or older. In order to attend programs with your child, they must be listed in your account as an additional contact.
If your child shows signs of illness please keep them home. Should your child become ill during the program we ask that you take them home, so they can rest, recover and not spread illness to others. It is recommended that children who are vomiting or have diarrhea wait 24 hours after symptoms have subsided before joining others.
OPCC will not administer any medication (prescription or non-prescription i.e.; Benadryl, Tempra, etc.), except in the event a child requires emergency medication in response to an allergic or life-threatening condition. If your child has an epi-pen or rescue reliever inhaler, there are forms that must be completed before they can attend the Children’s program associated with our Parenting programs. Please contact OPCC's main office to complete the required forms. If there are any changes in a child's medical condition, it is the parent's responsibility to inform OPCC. OPCC, at the discretion of the Executive Director, may refuse to undertake responsibility for administering medications or procedures, which staff does not have the expertise to administer.
Qualifications of OPCC staff:
OPCC staff are experienced, caring and have a love for supporting families. Our EarlyON staff are Registered Early Childhood Educators, are trained annually in CPR/First Aid, and have trained for many years to develop skills and expertise in the field of childcare. The instructors of our Enrichment programs each have a specialized skillset or certification, which is used in the development in each program.
Inclement Weather & Closures:
All programs will be cancelled if the Halton District School Board closes the schools for the Oakville area due to weather conditions. You can check their website for the up-to-date information at www.hdsb.ca, listen to your local radio station or watch CHCH television station. The Centre is also closed for all Statutory Holidays. OPCC posts closure information in the OPCC Updates section of our website, as well as on our Facebook
accounts. Parents will not be reimbursed for cancellations due to weather conditions.

Giving Back to the Centre:
Volunteers: There are lots of ways to get involved at OPCC. Volunteers can assist us in the office, classrooms and at special events. If you would like to learn more click here, and you can view our volunteer application form.
Donations and Fundraising: OPCC is a registered charity and relies on donations and fundraising to support subsidies, additional supports in the classroom for children with special needs and equipment purchases. Click here to become an OPCC champion today. A tax receipt will be issued for monetary donations over $10.
Our Centre takes pride in offering our programs to all children, regardless of the level of their need. All children are welcomed into our programs and our staff promotes inclusive social play and full participation in all routines and activities in the classroom. Our program includes children with extra supports in approximate proportion to their presence in the population. Our philosophy fosters an environment of mutual respect and understanding which supports the whole family during their preschool journey.
